High School Supplies

The following supplies are needed by high school students taking a Taylor Made Science class. Please purchase all supplies before the first day of class. Allow time for textbook deliveries, etc.

Textbooks:

Students need their own copy of the textbook used for their class. Used copies work just fine and can usually be purchased through online sources such as amazon.com or textbooks.com. When ordering, please double check with the vendor to make sure they are sending the correct ISBN. Different editions often have the same cover and may look the same from the outside!

Biology: Biology (ISBN: 0-13-115291-2) – any “dragonfly book” will work; it doesn’t have to be the Texas edition!

Chemistry: Chemistry: Concepts and Applications (ISBN: 0-07-825870-7)

Physics: Conceptual Physics (ISBN: 0-321-05202-1)

Advanced Placement Environmental Science: all materials will be provided by the teacher

Additional High School Supplies:

The following school supplies are also needed. If you have any questions about any of the supplies, please contact the teacher at [email protected].

scientific calculator (graphing calculator may be used but is not required)
colored pencils
writing utensil
organization system such as a binder or folder (in addition to lab notebook)
a few household supplies for labs; a list will be provided with lab kit

Lab Notebooks: Lab reports will all be completed digitally and collected into a 1-inch 3 ring binder which will serve as their documentation of lab experience for college admissions.

Chemistry only: safety glasses or goggles (any type is fine if they wrap around the face and protect the eyes from the side, as well as from the front)

Biology only: After weeks of searching and trying out different products I was not able to find a “pocket microscope” that would come close to replacing a full sized one. During labs that require microscope work I will be displaying my microscope through a digital microscope camera in real time. So, students who do not have a microscope at home will still be able to do the same labs. If you have a microscope at home or want to borrow one for the class, your student can make their own slides at home (supplies provided). But, there is no need to purchase a microscope for this class. In a physical classroom, students spend very little time actually adjusting the microscope themselves. Most time is spent looking through the scope, drawing and labeling what they see. Students will be getting the same lab and almost the same lab experience by viewing the slide on the screen. And, they will be able to instruct me to move the slide, change the magnification, etc., as they will be viewing the slide in real time.
